PLEASE HELP US TO FUNDRAISE FOR AN AUTISM SERVICE DOG FOR OUR SON, STEVIE
My name is Don Penney and my wife Debbie and I would like to thank you for coming to our webpage. The purpose of this site is to help raise money for Autism Dog Services. Our 6 year old son, Stevie has been approved to receive a service dog from ADS.
Stevie was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at the age of 3. The last three years have been full of highs and lows, triumphs and disappointments, smiles and tears. Through it all Stevie has persevered and is now in a mainstream Grade 1 class here in Canada. He has made tremendous strides and we are extremely proud of our little boy. However, he still struggles with many basic tasks that neurotypical children his age take for granted. He is prone to wandering and darting away from us, particularly in public settings. He has hypersensitivity in all of his senses. He can easily go into sensory overload when met with the commotion of the everyday world. This overload can result in a total emotional meltdown complete with crying, screaming and self hitting. It has made life a challenge and a safety concern for all of us.
Despite the issues brought on by his autism, Stevie is a sweet, loving, happy boy. He is very social and enjoys the company of family, friends and his peers. He has a natural affinity for animals: cats, horses and especially dogs. When around a dog, Stevie's demeanor switches from hyperactive, anxious and excitable to calm and focused. He is extremely gentle with dogs and will sit and pet their fur for long periods of time. Stevie has been approved to receive an autism service dog from Autism Dog Services in Lynden, Ontario. This fantastic organization trains their dogs to offer safety, companionship and independence to children with autism. Please visit their website at www.autismdogservices.ca for more information.
As a fundraising effort to help with the cost of training these amazing dogs I have released an online album of my original songs on iTunes called "A Piece of the Puzzle". Proceeds from the download of "A Piece of the Puzzle" will benefit Autism Dog Services. If you would like to make a personal donation on Stevie's behalf to Autism Dog Services you may do so by clicking on the Donate Now button (donations made from outside of Canada will be converted into Canadian dollars at source). Also, the video below features my song "The Puzzle" from the album, as well as a slideshow with more information on Autism Spectrum Disorder and Autism Dog Services. Thank you again for taking the time to visit our website and for your support.

UPDATE: We were fortunate to receive a $5,000 grant through President's Choice Children's Charitiesin May 2013. This is a huge help in our fundraising efforts to reach our $18,000 goal. Every dollar helps Stevie get closer to receiving his service dog.
***On August 5, 2013 a fundraiser was held in Grand Bend, ON for Stevie. The Beach Bums Cruise, a classic car show on Ipperwash Beach, which raised $4,400 in Stevie's name. This money was donated on Stevie's belhalf to Autism Dog Services. Along with the President's Choice Children's Charity grant, and your donations, we are only $5,000 away from our goal of $18,000. Thank you all for your continued support.***
